Soap Actor Says Fans Are More Sophisticated Than Ever

PALM DESERT, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Soap operas are better than ever – and one soap actor says the fans are as well.

Actor Jed Allan – who currently plays Edward Quartermaine on General Hospital – has spent decades working on soaps like Santa Barbara, Days Of Our Lives and Port Charles and is pleased that “the writing, the acting; everything is more sophisticated these days.”

Luckily for him, so are the fans.

Back in the old days, Allan says it was common for actors to be accosted by fans who didn’t like the actions of their characters.

It still happens but not as much these days and Allan says that’s because the modern couch potato is “able to discern the difference between fantasy and reality.”

Still, there are some times when that doesn’t happen. Allan laughs that Santa Barbara was so popular in Russia that, as he puts it, “they actually think I’m a big star.”

Allan has a successful career as an actor but he’s stretching out in other fields. He’s just written an autobiography, Please Spell The Name Right: A Memoir From A Former Young Stud...Now An Old One (McKenna Publishing).
