Sneaky Sitcom Switches

Monday, March 29, 2010 16:08 GMT

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Sitcoms of the late ’80s and early ’90s must’ve thought viewers were stupid – or at least blind.

Many TV shows from that era like Saved By The Bell, The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, and Roseanne tried to pull a fast one by changing actresses or abruptly bumping off characters.

Even worse, they never acknowledged or explained the weird switcheroos.

Exhibit A: When Saved By The Bell added tomboy biker babe Tori Scott to the cast but Kelly Kapowski and Jessie Spano suddenly disappeared.

Though producers later blamed scheduling conflicts, the silent snub was still bizarre.

Then there’s the strange Aunt Viv switch on Fresh Prince. Janet Hubert, who originally played Will Smith’s aunt, spoke to FlashNews in 2009 and confirmed that she was fired without warning, so someone new was hired.

Again, no one said a word.

Finally, Becky Conner in Roseanne was played back and forth confusingly by two different actresses in the same season.
