Hitler's Mercedes Not So Practical
Friday, February 5, 2010 17:06 GMT
SANTA ANA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) The world knows Hitler as a driven tyrant, but he was also an avid automobile enthusiast. His car of choice was none other than a Mercedes.
The 1939 Mercedes G4 Offener Touring Wagon was Hitlers primary mode of transportation. It had six wheels, bullet proof glass, and custom pistol holders throughout the interior.
According to Mark Foster from the Lyons Air Museum in Santa Ana, California where the car is currently on display Hitler needed a car that would project an image of strength and utility.
However the six-wheeled vehicle only looked the part because it weighed five tons, had only 110 horse power, and was a convertible rendering the bullet proof glass almost useless.
Because of the cars heft and lack of power, it also got stuck in the mud a lot, not exactly in line with the image of the wannabe world conqueror.
