Walls CAN Talk
Thursday, February 4, 2010 17:20 GMT
MANCHESTER, England (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) Some walls really can talk.At least through the power of creative wallpaper, which will be displayed starting Saturday (Feb. 6) at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, England, for the exhibit Walls Are Talking: Wallpaper, Art and Culture.
The show will feature pieces of wallpaper that communicate emotions.
For example, one artist attempts to elicit a sense of claustrophobia and menace with black and white wallpaper that has handprints all over it as though a pack of zombies were clawing through it.
According to curator Christine Woods, wallpaper is often seen as just the backdrop for holding up actual art.
However, she insists that wallpaper can be just as creative and speaks volumes.
It can be pretty, scary, nauseating, or sensual depending on color, pattern, and texture.
She says, Its a bold and expressive art form. There are so many possibilities, and there is a great power to print.
