Ballet Seeks Nutcrackers

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – It sounds nuts, but you don’t have to be a pro ballerina to be a nutcracker.

Now through November 29, the San Francisco Ballet is holding the Magical Memories Nutcracker Video Contest, asking folks to re-enact a scene from The Nutcracker or remake a memory of watching the classic ballet.

Spokesperson Meredith Nonnenberg says the ballet company is looking forward to a wide range of entries that re-imagine the holiday staple.

She encourages participants to use sets, costumes, and anything else to make their video version more “visually interesting.”

Those with two left feet need not worry about making perfect pirouettes.

Nonnenberg says, “We certainly do not expect professional dancing. It would be great if we did get quality dancing though. Our dancers might have a bit of competition for their jobs.”

The winner will receive a posh, all-expense paid trip to Aspen, Colorado, worth more than $6,000.
