Model Train Maker Becomes Web Celeb

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Having an uncanny ability to build model trains has made one computer programmer a web celebrity.

David K. Smith is an average Joe from Toms River, New Jersey, who has a special talent for building working model trains in minuscule sizes.

Smith, a model train builder for 40 years, uploaded a video of himself making a choo-choo no more than an inch tall using only tweezers, a knife, and a pair of reading glasses.

As a result, he’s become an online sensation, garnering 200,000 hits on YouTube.

He says, “It just exploded. I haven’t come across anyone else who can build models as small as I do.”

Though many have marveled at the video on the Internet, Smith says he doesn’t get as much respect from his fellow model builders.

He laughs, “I get more friendly derision from them than building a fan club for me.”
