Pumpkin Growers Change The World

SANTA ANA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Growing a giant pumpkin can change the world.

So says Stuart Shim, spokesperson for the Southern California Giant Pumpkin Growing Community and the Pumpkinmania! Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off and Contest, happening at the Heritage Museum of Orange County in Santa Ana, California on Sunday (Oct. 25).

At the event, growers and gardeners will show off their humongous pumpkins, which weigh up to 900 pounds, in an effort to pocket the hefty $1,800 grand prize and other trophies.

Shim believes growing giant pumpkins brings people together and creates communities of like-minded growers, which he’s seen through his own gargantuan gardening work and truly thinks “pumpkinistas” are “changing the world, one pumpkin at a time.”

He reckons that if all veggies were built to be big, issues like poverty and hunger might be eradicated in poor countries.

Despite the fierce competition, Shim assures that pumpkinistas are a warm group of hobbyists who have hearts as big as their squash.
