At least at Where’s The Art!!, the world’s first 24- hour coin-operated art gallery, located in Portland, Oregon.
To check out the pieces on display, visitors put a quarter in a machine, like one machine that shows Barbies exercising on various pieces of mini workout equipment.
Also currently on display at the museum is the World’s Cheapest Psychic, which dispenses either three predictions, a past life regression session, or psychic counseling for the same bargain price – 25 cents – saving people an expensive trip to their local palm reader.
Owner Stephanie Pierce says sometimes visitors end up losing more change than expected because she believes old coin-operated machines are rigged to rip people off.
She’s pretty sure it’s not just a coincidence that after 15 or so uses, the machines decide to swallow people’s change, then suddenly work fine again.
