The Humungus Fungus Festival is growing a huge following for the town of Crystal Falls, Michigan, which celebrates the events 18th anniversary today (Aug. 7) through Sunday (Aug. 9).
The fest pays homage to Crystal Falls most famous resident, a 38-acre fungus that was discovered in town in 1988, with a mushroom cook-off, 10-foot mushroom pizza, and lots of other fungus fun.
Though spokesperson Mike Divine says the novelty of being home to the worlds largest fungus has worn off for locals, many tourists flock to town to catch a glimpse of the shroom and even try to steal a piece for themselves.
Divine explains, Mushroom hunters want to go find it, but they are naturally disappointed when they see its mostly underground.
Still, that hasnt stopped a few diehard mushroom lovers from digging into the Earth to find the fungus.
