Web developer Chris Cardinal is such a big fan of Threadless brand T-shirts – which feature original graphic designs by artists – that he created the “Threadcakes Contest” to honor the label.
Fans take their favorite Threadless design and attempt to recreate it in dessert fashion by baking a cake in its likeness.
Entries include a 3-D dragon blowing out a birthday cake and a smiling piece of toast rubbing jam on its belly.
Cardinal says the results have been awe inspiring, and hunger inspiring.
He explains, “It’s like turning a painting into a sculpture. They look so good, I have to find a way for them to send me the cake next year.”
Participants’ cakes have taken between three hours and five days to create.
Though not all of them can be winners, Cardinal says, “Even if you lose you still win because you still get cake.”
