The 2009 Winter Bike Championships are a series of events in which contestants race bikes down a snowy mountain race course.
Jeff Kuller, spokesperson for the event taking place at the Camden Snow Bowl resort in Camden, Maine, this Sunday (Feb. 22), calls the race a cross between a downhill ski race and roller derby.
He adds, Theres four bikes going at once down the same course. Sometimes they get in the way of each other.
Kuller says poor traction and skidding are issues for racers, but insists that snow biking beats out regular biking on concrete because its fun and less painful.
He says, Snow is gonna hurt less if you fall over.
After the main race, the Camden Snow Bowl will hold a big air contest, where bikers will launch off a slope and complete tricks in mid-air, which is always a crowd favorite.
