Pastry Chefs Set Out To Burn The French

LAS VEGAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Giving the French a good whipping isn’t easy for pastry chefs.

The 20th Annual Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie, or World Cup of Pastries, is cookin’ in Lyon, France, on Sunday (Jan. 25) and Monday (Jan. 26), where countries from around the globe will send their premiere pastry chefs for a worldwide bake-off.

According to En Ming Hsu, who’s a judge and manager for the American team, everyone is hoping to see the French team go up in smoke.

She says, “The country to beat always seems to be France. They have the home team advantage and have won so many times. You go in and you know you have to beat France. People won’t be cheering for the French team.”

Underdog teams like Mexico, Lebanon, and Russia will have to also contend with other powerhouse pastry countries like Italy and Japan, who Hsu says have the “loudest, most spirited supporters.”
