‘Survivor’ Runner-Up Surprises Mom With TV Gig

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One reality runner-up surprised her mother every single week with her TV stint.

Susie Smith came in second place on Survivor: Gabon this past Sunday (Dec. 14), taking home $500,000, but her mom was none-the-wiser.

Smith’s mother, who suffers from Dementia, was surprised to see her daughter on TV every week, mainly because she couldn’t remember.

Smith says, “Every week she’d forget and didn’t know I was gonna be on TV. She would say, ‘Why didn’t you tell me you were going to be on TV?’”

With her second place win, Smith hopes to encourage Mexican- Americans like herself to dream of bigger and better things.

She explains, “Mexicans don’t just have to be field workers. There’s a lot out there for us.”

Smith even credits her culture for getting her so far in the game saying, “Mexicans are very giving and generous. I shared my food and blanket if people needed it, and it helped.”
