Holiday Shopping Equals ID Theft?

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Shopping online this holiday season could cause you to lose your identity.

The Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) anticipates plenty of cyber shopping in the next few weeks and with that comes ID theft.

They have a few tips to guard yourself against Internet ID theft, the first of which is making sure you’re buying from a legit company.

To verify the business’ status, ITRC suggests checking out the online company with the Better Business Bureau.

Other online ID theft prevention tips include...

  • Make sure you order items from a secure website.

  • Research the company online and find out if they have complaints from past customers.

  • Read the fine print before making an online purchase.

  • Read the shipping rules, refunds and exchanges policies, and restocking charges.

  • Confirm that the company won’t share your information.

  • Buy with a credit card designated for online purchases, never with a debit card or check, as those forms of payment are more prone to fraud and ID theft.
