Creating Quick Comics Causes Meltdowns

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Don’t mess with a stressed out comic book geek.

This Saturday (Oct. 18) is 24-Hour Comics Day, in which comic book stores around the world challenge artists to create a 24- page comic book in only 24 hours.

Spokesperson “Atom! Freeman” calls the event a “creativity marathon” and says the all-nighter is so stressful for participants, it often leads to emotional outbursts.

He says, “It starts to turn into Lord of the Flies at around 3 A.M. People start to get nutty. One guy started singing to vent out his frustration and made a few enemies.”

Though the geeks haven’t come to blows, Freeman says there’s always an exchange of “snarky comments” and dirty looks during the event.

Says Freeman: “You put that many people in a room together and there will be drama. I like it. It makes it more entertaining.”

Despite the cattiness between the comic creators, Freeman says there’s still a communal feeling to the event.
