Don’t Judge A Lumberjack By His Cover

HAYWARD, Wis. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Not all lumberjacks are big, brawny men.

The Lumberjack World Championships is swinging into Hayward, Wisconsin, tomorrow (Jul. 25) through Sunday (Jul. 27), and event director Diane McNamer says folks shouldn’t be fooled by lumberjack stereotypes.

She explains, “You don’t really see the Brawny Man type, with the plaid shirt and the beard here. There are a few hunky lumberjacks competing, though, and I’m sure a few ladies in the crowd will be checking them out.”

McNamer also says “Lumberjills” – female lumberjacks – aren’t all “hefty, husky girls,” explaining, “We have slender gals, including a 20-year-old champion that you’d never think was a lumberjack. Looks can be deceiving.”

A 53-year-old woman from New Zealand will also be working some wood, and McNamer says the logging lady can “out-chop” people half her age.

No matter their age or what they look like, McNamer says all the wood-chopping champs are “the best of the best” and bring pride to America’s logging heritage.
