The 28th Annual Great Texas Mosquito Festival is buzzing its way back to Clute, Texas, this Thursday (Jul. 24) through Saturday (Jul. 26), with as many as 18,000 people gathering for mosquito-themed events like a mosquito calling contest, and the Mosquito Legs contest, which praises the person with the skinniest legs.
While being swarmed by the stinging pests sounds like a terrible time, the only thing youll have to swat away is sweat, as the arid climate keeps most mosquitoes away real ones, that is.
Marketing Director Lin Richey says plenty of people dress up as mosquitoes, although its not a costume she recommends.
She says, Its awfully hot. We dont need any heat strokes!
To ensure a sting-free celebration, the festival grounds are sprayed with mosquito repellent, but theres still a chance you might become bait for a bite.
Richey says, You should always be prepared with bug spray. If they come out, theyll do some stinging.
