DIY Host Goes On A Wrecking Rampage

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – TV handyman Matt Blashaw likes to wreck things before he builds them.

Blashaw is the handy host of Deconstruction, a new show that explores the science behind home improvement by testing materials like windows, toilets, countertops, and insulation to see what they’re really made of.

Blashaw was “a kid in a candy store” during filming because he was given free reign to wreck and ruin different home fixtures to test their quality.

While testing the sturdiness and heat differences between single and duel window panes, he got to hit golf balls into the glass and fry eggs on the windows.

Another time, he put some granite countertops to the test by dropping a bowling ball on them and blowing them up.

Blashaw says, “I’ve always loved tearing stuff apart because you learn so much. To really understand what you’re building you have to dissect it first.”

Through the crazy quality control tests, Blashaw hopes to show do-it-yourself enthusiasts the best materials to use for their own projects.

Deconstruction premieres July 2 on DIY Network.
