No Skinny Jeans Required To Crash Indie Music Scene

CHICAGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You don’t need skinny jeans, a funky hairdo, and a hipster attitude to rule the indie music world.

Randy Cherktow and Jason Feehan know what it’s like to be struggling musicians, so they’re sharing their advice with independent newcomers in their book The Indie Band Survival Guide: The Complete Manual for the Do-It-Yourself Musician (St. Martins).

Cherktow and Feehan – who’ve paid their rock ’n’ roll dues with their band Beatnik Turtle for 11 years – say now is the best time to be an indie musician because the Internet offers tools to get your music heard all over the world.

But a super hipster look isn’t needed for stage stardom.

Cherktow says, “Most of the people who hear your music will never see you, so whether you wear tight pants or spandex doesn’t matter.”

However, Feehan argues, “The tight pants and striped shirts do leave an impression though.”
