Randy Cherktow and Jason Feehan know what its like to be struggling musicians, so theyre sharing their advice with independent newcomers in their book The Indie Band Survival Guide: The Complete Manual for the Do-It-Yourself Musician (St. Martins).
Cherktow and Feehan whove paid their rock n roll dues with their band Beatnik Turtle for 11 years say now is the best time to be an indie musician because the Internet offers tools to get your music heard all over the world.
But a super hipster look isnt needed for stage stardom.
Cherktow says, Most of the people who hear your music will never see you, so whether you wear tight pants or spandex doesnt matter.
However, Feehan argues, The tight pants and striped shirts do leave an impression though.
