Bernadette Sava has just invented Mendies, disposable menstrual underwear with a built-in containment chamber designed to keep blood away from the body during that time of the month.
The environmentally-conscious, green undies are made from natural sponge, bamboo, and organic cotton materials, and can keep red residue from ruining your clothes.
According to Sava, Mendies are about as thick as a regular pad, but much more effective.
She explains, Pads and tampons arent designed to prevent leaks, but Mendies are. You can wear them on their own, without pads or tampons.
As of now, Mendies come in bikini, boyshorts, and hipster styles, however, thong Mendies are not an option.
Sava says thong Mendies would be unconventional because, in her words, theres just not enough material to cover the problem area.
Like most underwear, Mendies may cause a bit of a pantyline, but Sava assures that its a small price to pay for period protection.
Sava will debut her Mendies at INPEX, Americas Largest Invention Show, June 11-14 in Pittsburgh.
