Wine Lovers Crush The Competition

BRYAN, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A wine festival in Bryan, Texas, is stomping its way to success.

This Saturday (Apr. 19) nearly 8,000 people will head to Messina Hof Winery & Resort for their annual Wine & Roses Festival.

The soiree will have vendors, concerts, and tasting tents, but what really makes this party a smash is the grapestomping competition, where 10 to 20 teams stand barefoot in a barrel to see who can stomp the most grapes.

The crushing competition uses 250 pounds of grapes, and the winning team will receive gift certificates to use at the winery.

Winery spokesperson Jennifer Ryburn says the only strategy to stomping success is speed, as the first team whose jumping yields enough juice to fill a 750-milliliter bottle wins.

But don’t worry, you won’t have to drink any of the flattened foot fruit.

Ryburn says, “It’s all for fun, we don’t use the grapes for wine!”
