Pirates Walk The Plank In Key West

KEY WEST, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – It’s a pirate’s life for swashbucklers in Key West, Florida.

The 8th Annual Pirates in Paradise festival is sailing into town tomorrow (Nov. 29) through Sunday (Dec. 2), and seamates will be giving a “thar she blows,” for the end of hurricane season by walking the plank.

Festival “head wench” Julie McEnroe says scallywags will perform their best begging skills before being thrown into the murky sea for the Walk The Plank Championships, where costumed captives will be judged on creative presentation, style, and pleading ability.

She says, “It’s like the Olympics, with a score card and everything. People jump or cartwheel off the ship. It’s a little wacky.”

Along with the plank pleading, rowdy revelers will burn the hurricane flag used to warn residents of coming storms and party it up at a pirate ball.

Says McEnroe: “It’s a fun way to say goodbye to the season. It takes a fun-loving spirit to be a good pirate, and we’ve got it!”
