The 23rd Annual Giant Omelette Celebration is cookin this weekend (Nov. 3-4), where 45 chefs will be whipping up an omelette using 5,023 eggs and spicing it up with some local flavor.
More than 5,000 folks will feast on the enormous omelette, which includes 50-lbs. of onions, crawfish tails, and a whole lot of Tabasco sauce.
Event chairperson Arlene White says the massive meal is a heartfelt hats off to their hometown Cajun cuisine.
The colossal concoction is cooked on a 12-foot skillet, which White hopes will one day be mounted on a museum wall where people can have their picture taken in front of the jumbo pan.
But neither humans or eggs will flip for the fryer.
Says White, Our chefs cant pick up the omelette and turn it since its so big. So even though it is an omelette celebration, it ends up being scrambled eggs.
