Narcoleptic Fisherman: ‘You Snooze You Lose’

ERIE, Pa. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – After a sleep disorder nearly drowned his fishing dreams, one awesome angler is finally reelin’ in the rewards.

Tim Costa is a professional fisherman who suffers from narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea, and he clearly remembers a time when everyday was a sink or swim situation.

He says, “I always thought I was just a normal person who just couldn’t get enough rest. I had to deal with the constant badgering of people thinking I was lazy.”

Since Costa’s recent diagnosis, he’s been able to stay afloat, and is even returning to the professional fishing circuit in the FLW Outdoors Stren Series bass tournament in Catskill, New York, September 12-15.

But for this alert angler, staying awake is about more than bringing home the bass.

Costa says, “I can get things done now. We have bills to pay, the lawn needs to be mowed. I even bought a washer and dryer and actually installed it after work. It was great to do that for my wife. She’s a trooper.”
