Rocker Entertains The Crowd, Not His Emotions

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) - One raucous rocker won’t be strumming the strings at a coffee shop open mic anytime soon.

Sammy James Jr. fronts the hard rockin’ group The Mooney Suzuki, and though he toned things down for their new album, Have Mercy, he’s still more garage than “grande” when it comes to writing lyrics.

Says James, “I’m not one of those people that say, ‘I have all these feelings and I have to get them out.’ I write lyrics to entertain the other guys in the band.”

For the stripped-down new record, James combined his band’s manic energy with inspiration from some hip – and hippy – sources.

He says, “My Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead fetish got a little out of control. We were thinking of calling this album Sympathy for the Friend of the Devil.”

Have Mercy hits shelves June 19.
