The U.S. Air Guitar Championships is a 14-city tour searching for the next Jimi Hendrix of the invisible instrument.
The tour strums into Cleveland tomorrow (June 13) and is expected to attract aspiring airmen who shred on stage to classic Guns N Roses and Van Halen tunes, and who will play the part by dressing up in skimpy rocker spandex or outrageous animal costumes.
But event organizer Cedric Devitt says it takes more than a wicked Whitesnake song and some silly shtick to win this battle of the axes.
He says, People need to practice more. They feel like they can just wing it, but they end up embarrassing themselves.
Rockers will be judged on their stage presence, technical ability, and the quality of their airness that separates the true music mimes from their copying competitors.
Devitt says, Airness is hard to describe. Its like porn you know it when you see it.
Aspiring axe slingers are urged to sign up for the contest at www.usairguitar.com.
