Saloon Success Helped By Quick Stop At Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Sometimes all an old- fashioned country singer needs is a cowboy hat, a guitar, and an Ivy League education.

At least that’s the case with singer Liz Carlisle, who is releasing her new album Big Dreams on May 18 and hitting the road – complete with her degree from Harvard in tow.

Carlisle – who recently graduated from Harvard with an Ethnomusicology degree – says her Ivy League wits help her harness her star power and confidence.

Says Carlisle: “Some places, the real raucous clubs, I think I’ll be eaten alive, but I just get up there and play my ass off. It’s about knowing what people want to hear, and connecting with any audience.”

Although her pedigree is more beers and cards than Harvard yard, Carlisle says her choice to follow the paths of her idols like Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks was not as shocking for a Harvard grad as it seems.

In fact, her freshman college roommate became a professional ballroom dancer.

Carlisle jokes, “She’s the only person as crazy as I am.”
