Spice Up Your Cinco De Mayo With Homemade Margaritas

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you’re planning to toss back a few margaritas on Cinco De Mayo (May 5), you should try treating yourself to some fresh homemade margaritas.

New York-based margarita connoisseur Kevin Vanegas is a professional distiller for Don Julio Tequila and he says a true Cinco De Mayo fiesta isn’t complete without custom-made margaritas.

According to Vanegas, the perfect margarita can be frozen or on the rocks but says blended concoctions like “Don Julio Tableside Margaritas” are perfect for outdoor patio parties.

To make a tableside ’rita, he suggests blending fresh fruits like blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries together with some homemade sour mix called “simple syrup” which is made by boiling water together with sugar, lime and lemon juice.

For the best taste, Vanegas insists on using “blanco” tequila, which has the bite necessary to cut through the fruity mix.

If you really want to spoil your Cinco De Mayo amigos, Vanegas suggests offering them an extra shot of tequila to sip on, such as aged “Anejo” tequila which has an oaky, soothing taste perfect for relaxing poolside.

Finally, to make your fiesta fabulous, Vanegas insists you serve chips and salsa, which “go with any type of margarita.” He also suggests splashing tequila onto the grill in some main dishes like tequila-glazed shrimp or chicken.
