De La Hoya-Mayweather Fight Gets Personal

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The upcoming fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather is getting more personal than De La Hoya ever expected.

The fight is scheduled for May 5 and De La Hoya tells Parade magazine that while he doesn’t “dislike anyone,” there is big friction between he and Mayweather that stems from comments Mayweather recently made while promoting the fight.

As he puts it, “[Mayweather’s] father was my trainer for six years, and I don’t want to get into that family situation. But when I ask myself why I am taking this fight, Floyd doing all this talking is my fuel.”

There is another family situation that will have an impact on the fight. De La Hoya says his wife, singer Millie Corretjer, is his biggest fan and will be ringside at the fight.

But she won’t be watching. De La Hoya says “she’s never seen me fight. She covers her eyes.”
