Former ‘Buck Rogers’ Bypasses His Comeback

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Actor Gil Gerard is best known for his late ’70s Sci-Fi series, Buck Rogers In The 25th Century.

Now, in the 21st century, Gerard is bypassing his chance for a comeback – literally.

That’s because Gerard is the star of Bypassed, a Discovery Health Channel special airing January 10 that focuses on his recent stomach-stapling surgery.

About 18 months ago, Gerard weighed 353 pounds and admits he wasn’t getting many acting offers. Although he has been fighting obesity all his life, he considered bariatric surgery after everything else failed.

Now, Gerard is down to 200 pounds and the acting offers are starting to roll his way.

However, now that he’s gone through the surgery, he admits he’s less concerned about acting parts and more interested in using his fame as a “bully pulpit” to focus attention on the obesity epidemic.
