Engineer Offers Alternatives To Shooting Guns On New Year’s Eve

MINNEAPOLIS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Instead of shooting a gun in the air on New Year’s Eve – and possibly killing someone – how about ringing in the new year with a Calcium Carbite Cannon?

Minneapolis-based engineer William Gurstelle says a homemade Calcium Carbite Cannon made with a PVC pipe, powdered calcium carbite and some water “makes a big ass bang.”

If you like noise, he also recommends making a pulsejet out of an iron pipe which he insists, pound for pound, is “the loudest thing in the world.”

Maybe you want to freak out your neighbors. In that case, Gurstelle says to make a Dry Cleaner Bag Balloon out of the clear plastic bag you get from the dry cleaner and some flammable Sterno in a small pie pan. He says the balloon looks like a glowing jellyfish and floats up to 50-feet high.

He laughs and says someone is bound to call the cops claiming they’ve seen a UFO.
