Nearly 55 folks are expected to work the Turkey Talkline on November 23 and could answer as many as 10,000 calls on that day alone.
Talkline director Mary Clingman says everyone who works the Talkline has to have a degree in food science but most of their work borders on psychology.
For instance, Talkline directors had to comfort one nervous man who called from his cell phone while grocery shopping and had to be walked through every item he needed to buy for a Thanksgiving meal.
Then there was the woman who was in a panic because she had stored her turkey in a snow bank the day before Thanksgiving and couldnt find it once new snow had fallen.
Clingman says the counselors calmed the woman down until she found her frosty turkey.
This marks the 26th year that Butterball has operated the Talkline, and there are always surprising new questions, such as the woman who needed to know how many turkeys she would need to feed her five Great Danes.
