Indie Rockers Deerhoof Inspire Grade School Teacher, Students’ Ballet

ATLANTA (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – An indie rock band called Deerhoof is being swept off its feet by an entire ballet production that is being adapted from its music – and performed by grade school students.

The band’s 2004 album, Milk Man, so inspired an elementary school teacher at North Haven Community School in Maine that Deerhoof frontman Greg Saunier says she arranged, choreographed and wrote an entire ballet for the kids based on it.

And, Saunier says: “We were just blown away by seeing someone else interpret our music that way – it’s rare and strange and really, really special.”

Just how special, the band will find out on October 23 and 24, when kids, mostly from grades 3-8, present the world premiere performance of the Milk Man ballet at the small town’s community center.

Saunier adds: “I can’t wait. The teacher says she loves one part she wrote for her 7th grade saxophone player.”
