‘Mr. Chips’ To Woody Allen Is Actor Peter Weller To Us

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Actor Peter Weller is best known as the title role in the futuristic Robocop movies, but to his friend Woody Allen, he’s known as “Mr. Chips.”

Weller says Allen has written letters of recommendation for him in the past, including one that called him “Mr. Chips” and “a credit to his race.”

Weller says the jokes refer to his many off-camera academic pursuits, but adds that “only Woody could get away with that.”

Weller is currently hosting the Emmy award-winning History Channel series, Engineering An Empire, which debuts this season with a special on Egypt on Monday (Oct. 9).

He says he got the gig through fellow actor and friend, Matt Dillon, whom he calls “something of an idiot savant” when it comes to history, or, in Weller’s words: “Matt’s the kind of guy you think is sitting in the back of the class not paying attention, when really he can surprise you.”
