Trip To Africa Opened Sheltered Mom’s Eyes

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Many people don’t go on an African safari their first time out of the country, but one stay-at-home mom from South Haven, Michigan, did just that.

And she can’t wait to go back.

Mom Amy O’Sullivan admits she was a “homebody” who “rarely ventured to Chicago” before she auditioned for the new Travel Channel reality show, Moms on the Road: Africa, which took her and eight other moms from all over the U.S. to Namibia, South Africa, Botswana and Zambia for six weeks.

Says O’Sullivan: “I tried out with a friend but I think it was my lack of experience that got me on.”

She says despite missing her kids and fresh water, and experiencing “extreme culture shock,” O’Sullivan has found a new appreciation for other cultures and is excited about “instilling a love of travel in my children.”

Moms on the Road: Africa premieres September 28 on the Travel Channel.
