Built To Spill Not Built For Selling Out Since New Wave

BOISE, Idaho (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Doug Martsch formed his band Built To Spill in 1992, coincidentally as the alternative nation hit the mainstream airwaves.

But these days, Martsch says it’s obvious how completely un-cool he and his band are, and always have been – especially when it comes to the music they listen to themselves.

According to Martsch, bassist Brett Nelson “can play some of the most embarrassing ’80s New Wave in the van on the road – we all just want to kill him or get him some help at different times.”

Martsch says, “It’s one thing to play the radio hits, even if it’s terrible, like Men Without Hats – but he’s into obscure crap.”

But Martsch agrees that at this point in the partnership, no one will be changing for anyone else – whether outside or in – and that Nelson probably plays his embarrassing music “because it passes everyone else so much.”

Built To Spill’s new album, You In Reverse, is available now.
