Poker Parties Hard On Kids

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Winning a big poker tournament is an American dream for many adults, but it can be a nightmare to their kids.

That’s what filmmaker Susan Genard learned while filming No Limit: A Search For The American Dream On The Poker Tournament Trail.

Genard, who competed on the tour while making the film, took her then-4-year-old son to the tournament cities, but left him with nannies and babysitters while she and her partner, Tim Rhys, worked 14 hours a day on both cards and the film.

She admits, “It got to the point my son started hating the games and, at one point, he said, ‘Poker means you can’t be with your kids when you want to.”’

But there were some benefits for the child while his mom was playing cards, she admits: “He didn’t know how to read but quickly learned the word, ‘casino.”’

No Limit: A Search For The American Dream On The Poker Tournament Trail makes its official debut on July 26 at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas during the World Series of Poker.
