Chasing Storms Is Filmmaker’s Stock In Trade

BOWIE, Tex. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When storms are in the weather picture down in Texas, chances are, so is filmmaker Martin Lisius.

He’s an Arlington-based photographer who runs StormStock, a film library containing footage of every type of storm imaginable, whether they be tornadoes, typhoons, blizzards or hurricanes.

As he puts it, “We go for anything that is violent in some way.”

Lisius has been in the storm filming business for 13 years and although last year had a record number hurricanes, he says it was just “business as usual.”

This year, there’s currently a lull between the peak tornado season of May through June and when the hurricane season kicks in hard in August and September.

Chasing storms sounds dangerous but Lisius says he’s never felt his life was in jeopardy because he takes precautions.

In his words, “If you see a Mack truck coming down the highway, you get off the highway.”
