Paul Giamatti: ‘I’ve Been 40 For About 7 Years Now’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Actor Paul Giamatti has a weird way of defying the aging process.

He figures he’s been 40 years old for the last seven years, even though his birth certificate lists him as only 39.

Giamatti tells Parade magazine, “I have a middle- aged soul. When I turned 38, I said to my wife, ‘Am I not 40 yet?”’

The Sideways star admits he’s been in “a state of crisis” since he was 12, and it causes him to overthink everything. EVERYTHING.

He confides: “I just wrestled with myself about mayonnaise or no mayonnaise over here. It was just a split second but it was a titanic struggle.”

One struggle he doesn’t have these days is finding work as a leading man.

Giamatti made his name as a character actor, but Sideways has led to lead roles in films like M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming Lady In The Water.

In his words, “The work I’ve been getting lately.... is not stuff that’s predicated so much on what I look like. That’s been very freeing actually.”

Lady In The Water opens nationally July 21.
