For those not in the know, the shamisen is a three-stringed plucked instrument, and Ryoichiro and Kenichi Yoshida are considered virtuosos on it in their native land.
Now the Yoshida Brothers are taking their act to America, starting tomorrow (Jun. 2) in Los Angeles, in hopes of plucking a few music fans away from guitars or drums.
Traveling to America has been a longtime dream for the Yoshidas, who look to guitarist Jimi Hendrix as an inspiration.
In fact, Kenichi hopes the tour is successful enough to inspire Americans to take up the shamisen, which they admit has a different range than western stringed instruments like the guitar, bass or ukulele.
So far, the brothers arent sure how Americans will react but Kenichi hopes to get the chance to jam with jazz guitar legend Pat Metheny.
