Son Of ‘Over The Rainbow’ Composer Over The Moon For Katharine McPhee

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Katharine McPhee’s performance of “Over The Rainbow” on American Idol this past Tuesday (May 16) earned her a vote from the son of the song’s composer, Harold Arlen.

Sam Arlen says McPhee did “a fantastic job” with the song and his Dad would be pleased as well.

However, he also points out that his Dad was surprised the song was ever a success since it had a very rocky birth.

In Arlen’s words, “He had a hard time finishing the song and didn’t exactly what he wanted to say at first.”

Even after he figured it out, Arlen still had to fight off The Wizard Of Oz filmmakers, who tried to cut the song out of the movie three different times because it slowed down the plot.

Luckily for Arlen and everyone else, the song has become an international classic and now Sam hopes to make his Dad’s name as famous as his songs through The Wonderful World Of Song, a touring concert program that debuts in Los Angeles on June 1.
