L.A. Play Marathon Takes Center Stage – Briefly

HOLLYWOOD (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A few playwrights in LaLa Land will be getting their 15 minutes of fame – literally.

A Los Angeles theater company called FirstStage is getting ready to host its 20th annual festival featuring plays no longer than 15 minutes in length.

The “Marathon of Short Plays” starts May 21 at the Hollywood Court Theatre and will showcase “a carnival of discovery,” say organizers, since previous festivals have showcased actors, writers and directors that have gone on to bigger and better things in Hollywood than mere community theater.

But it’s the intimacy and quirkiness that keeps the marathon fresh, such as a full-blown 15-minute “Celtic musical” and a play where three women discuss romance while sitting in a mud bath.
