Car Buffs Shun Being Shiftless

COLDWATER, Mich. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some auto buffs fear the world is becoming a shiftless place – but a new website is helping them stick together to save the stickshift.

It’s called and is dedicated to make sure manual transmissions don’t get run out of town by the automatic kind.

The website’s founder is Greg Bruder, a lifelong shifter from Coldwater, Michigan who claims he understands why the stickshift is getting the shaft.

But he and his anti-automatic crew refuse to give up the stick lightly, regardless.

As he puts it, “We understand we are a minority. We want to bring people together, give them a name, an identity.”

Although manuals are only found in 10 percent of new cars, Bruder nevertheless gets 100 percent support from fellow self- shifters.

In his words, “It’s pretty wild. The response is from people from all different walks of life. There’s a lot of people out there ready to say, ’That’s me. I’ll only drive a stick.”’

The website is designed mainly to connect stick-lovers with one another, but Bruder hopes it eventually attracts the attention of car companies – and prevents his precious manual transmission from automatic extinction.
