Teen Chefs Plan To Dice It Out At Annual Cook-off

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Cooks on the reality show Top Chef face hard-nosed food critics weekly but one Charlotte, North Carolina high schooler deals with the toughest critics of all: Her parents.

Rachel Stemmer is a 17-year-old senior who is getting heated up for the Best Teen Chef competition starting Saturday (Apr. 29) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Stemmer is competing against 20 other teenage Wolfgang Pucks and claims her folks haven’t stopped nagging her since she made the finals.

As she puts it, “They always have some comment or suggestion on how to make my food different,” constantly browbeating her to bring new sauces and flavors to her sauteed fish dish.

The culinary-inclined adolescent says despite what her parents think, she’s going to stick with her own saucy concoction for the big day, which combines pineapples, sweet sauce and other secret ingredients.

If Stemmer takes the cake at the competition, she will win a full-ride scholarship to the Arts Institute.
