‘Avenger’ Is Sweet For Sam Elliott

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Sam Elliott does a lot of action scenes in his upcoming TNT movie, The Avenger, but sometimes it’s the details that sweat him the most.

Elliott plays Vietnam veteran-turned-lawyer Calvin Dexter, a character he can relate to.

In his words, “I felt we were contemporaries. Vietnam was my war, and although I didn’t go there like Dexter, I was in the National Guard. Plus, he has a wife and a daughter and so do I.”

But some things were harder for him to relate to. The film was shot entirely in Capetown, South Africa, but has scenes set in Washington, D.C., Bosnia and South Africa.

He admits, “They try to shoot some scenes in an underground parking garage and say it’s Washington, but you never forget you’re in South Africa.”

The Avenger, which also stars Timothy Hutton and James Cromwell, debuts April 9.
