Will ‘Brokeback Mountain’ Themed Oscar Statuettes Pop Up This Year?

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – In 1938, Walt Disney received seven tiny Oscar statuettes in addition to his regular- sized award for Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Should we expect statuettes in cowboy hats or in Brokeback Mountain-esque embraces this year?

A representative from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who asked not to be named says, “No. [The Academy] would not do that.”

Even if Brokeback Mountain is a big winner at the Oscars, she says the statuettes will remain hatless and alone “to keep the integrity of the award.”

The rep says any lingering suspicions about specially shaped statuettes can be put to rest because this year’s golden awards have “already been created” and are on display at the Hollywood & Highland shopping center in Los Angeles as part of an exhibition called “Meet The Oscars.”

Each gold plated statuette weighs eight-and-a-half pounds, and for the first time ever at the exhibit, she notes, “There’s one you can hold.”
