Actresses Could Be Twirling Down The Oscar Red Carpet In Dancewear

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – ABC’s Dancing With The Stars is proof enough that an actress doesn’t have to be a professional dancer to look good in a sequined Samba dress or an elegant Viennese Waltz gown.

Designer Maria McGill – who created the showstopping costumes for stars like Kelly Monaco and Rachel Hunter last season – says there’s no reason why actresses can’t take the glamorous styles of the dance floor to the red carpet.

She notes, “Kelly Monaco has worn our things to the daytime Emmys,” and thinks the dancer-like physiques of several actresses – i.e. Charlize Theron and Keira Knightley – are perfect for dancewear.

If Oscar nominee Judi Dench, who isn’t necessarily lean and lithe, came to her for a frock, McGill insists, “I could dress her too. Our things are for everyone.”

McGill specializes in bedazzled dancewear that spans everything from Ballroom to Cha-Cha to the Quickstep, but she thinks actresses need to try the dresses on to appreciate them.

In her words, “On a person? Oh my God. They come alive!”
