U.S. To Form New Pro Cycling Team

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A newly formed US pro cycling team is hoping to show Americans there’s more to cycling than just Lance Armstrong.

Later today (Feb. 7) in New York, the organizers and team members of the new Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team will hold a press conference to announce their formation.

As team member and current USPRO Road Champion Chris Wherry says, “Everything Lance has done has benefitted the sport of cycling. You can go to any town and ask, ‘Do you know what the Tour de France is?’”

Wherry says he’s hoping the new team will be an avenue for more Americans to learn about the sport.

He’s also being honored with his own Wherry Signature Team Bike made by United Bicycles, LLC, which costs $7,000. As Wherry puts it, “It’s not something you stroll down to find at Wal-Mart.”

The Team Director will be Frankie Andreu, Armstrong’s former teammate for 10 years, and he’s coming out of retirement at age 39 because he’s confident Americans will take to the team.

In his words, “I believe they’re going to fall in love with it.”
