Artist Revs Up Career With NASCAR Sculptures

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A southern California artist is kicking his career into high gear with art made from NASCAR racers.

Steve Maloney’s works are currently on display in his gallery in Rancho Santa Fe, California, where he exhibits twisted metal sculpture and sculptural paintings made from sheet metal and pieces of NASCAR vehicles

Maloney refers to his studio as “Where the rubber meets the road,” and often the rubber is pieces of tires that have sheared off from race cars he buys online.

One sculptural collage he’s currently working on is made of 14 front end grills with pieces of dangling tires – he calls this work the “Maloney 500.”

For now, the pieces can only be seen at his studio, but he’s working on getting them into other venues.

He figures they’re best suited for racetracks, car museums and fine art museums.
