‘Syriana’ Actor Goes From ‘Fawlty Towers’ To Oil Wells

LONDON (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You know you’ve made your mark on TV when a one-time role on a sitcom sticks with you for 30 years.

Case in point: British-born Nicky Henson is still remembered for his role in an episode of Fawlty Towers which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

The only reason Henson took the part of Mr. Johnson in the episode “The Psychiatrist” is because his good friend and star of the show, John Cleese, asked him.

Henson says Cleese was so uneasy about having to insult the character that he found it easier to insult his friend rather than an unknown actor.

Henson says the role paid 150 pounds – about $260 dollars today – but the residuals over the years have earned him nearly 60,000 pounds – $102,000.

Henson can be seen in the PBS documentary Fawlty Towers Revisited due out in early December, but he’s hoping a new movie role will be as memorable.

He’ll be playing a sleazy Alabama lawyer in the new George Clooney movie Syriana which opens U.S.-wide Dec. 9.
